Another hot Summer afternoon.

The old Texas School Book Depository Building (it is now Dallas County Administration building). 6th floor, window on the right, is where Oswald fired the rounds that killed President Kennedy.

Downtown Phoenix

This is actually the first time that we drove through downtown Phoenix. It's kind of empty, sort of reminded me of Downtown Tampa, where it's really dead after business hour.

There was a lot of empty lots, plenty of metered parking, has a wild west feel to me.

It's a huge multi-hospital complex, that's a little city in itself. There's still a lot of construction, but the hospital where I was working, surprisingly, is laying off people (trying to cut 10% operating cost). Economic downturn is hitting some of the most profitable business also....

Downtown Day Out

A sunny day out, temperature is about 80 degrees. Nothing like the 100+ temperature down in Phoenix, this is the best time of the year in Flagstaff.

There was a Taiko concert by elementary school children at the Heritage Plaza. Although they only had 3 weeks of practice, they were really good! That's another thing I like about Flagstaff, so many out door activities during the Summer time.

City Center in Morning Light.

Location - Las Vegas, NV. Las Vegas Blvd.

This is a monster of a development right on the Vegas Strip. Sandwiched between Belagio and Monte Carlo. I don't know how many buildings were leveled to make room for this development. Even with the economic downturn, it does not show any signs of stoppage/slowdown, it is moving right along.

City of Prescott

I have always pronouced Prescott as "pres-scott" in the past, not until I moved to Arizona, that I learned the local pronounciation is "press-kit". I guess that's one way to tell a local to a visitor. Prescott was the territorial capital until 1889, and has a large number of old Victorian style homes near the downtown area. It also is the home to the oldest running rodeo, which starts June 30th - July 5th this year.
The city itself is not very big, but combined with Prescott Valley and Chino Valley, the population here is around 110,000 plus. The building/development code is probably not as stringent as Flagstaff, so I see a lot more commercial and residential development here than Flagstaff. At 5300 ft in elevation, the location is cooler than Phoenix in the Summer, while not as cold as Flagstaff in the Winter, making it ideal location for retirees and snow birds, :).

Fancy Homes

Near downtown Buffalo, there were plenty of opulent homes of yester-year. From what I have gathered, turn of the century Buffalo is fairly industrious (steel being one of them), so lots of money floating around. Most of these houses are quite large, which I can see some of them have been converted to multi-unit apartments.

Buffalo, NY

Driving through historic Linwood neighborhood. A lot of neat looking Victorian style houses, some have been remodeled, and few are in need of a little TLC.

On the campus of Northern Arizona University (NAU) - Cline Library building.

Compared to the university I went to (Angelo State University - West Texas), where there were 6,000 + when I went, NAU has enrollment of over 20,000, that's quite a bit considering Flagstaff's population is only 60,000 +.
